Paging Dr. Freud

Last night I dreamed that I went home to Cincinnati, crawled into bed and fell asleep. I did not get up. I kept sleeping and no matter what anyone tried to get me out of bed, I would just roll over towards the wall (my favorite sleeping position) and zonk back out. My parents even brought in a house-call doctor like they have in the movies or in children's books (with the coat and the handbag), but to no avail. Then it was 6:30 and I had to get ready for school.

I too had a dream last night. I was on a kind of airplane, though it must have been a rocketship, because it was taking me to mars! And not just me, but a whole cabin full of expectant passengers, including my family. Unfortunately I wasn't able to see too much out of the little airline windows, because I had an aisle seat; I just caught some confused glimpses of red clouds and dust. And then we landed! The next thing I remember, we're in a little touristy settlement on the surface. We check into our hotel, but the path that leads to it is very dark, and I have a moment of panic as my feet begin to sink into the soft martian soil as if it were quicksand. Luckily I extricate myself. The town itself reminds me of a newly birthed sea-side resort, or some rapidly cobbled together pleasure oasis in the middle of the desert. There's a kind of ride that holds you suspended over a giant lake of rolling lava while an animitronic monster tries to eat you. I really want to ride this but don't want to wait in the long line. There are a couple of bookstores with books in all different langauges; I idly wonder what the currency of this place is, and who is responsible for the settlement; all of the signs are in Japanese and English. I suddenly turn off the main street into a flashing tunnel; it's like a maze inside with flashing neon numbers, and at certain stretches the tunnel revolve very rapidly, making it hard to navigate. I am very happy to make it out the other end! Then I beg my parents to sign us up for a guided tour of the martian surface, as I want to leave the town and see craters and things.
And then I woke up!
